The word ally comes from the from Latin alligare which means to "bind to". An ally is someone who shows up for those whose voices are marginalized, dismissed and/or drowned out. They bind themselves to the vision and values of the other. They quiet their own voice in order to listen deeply with open mind and heart, and they amplify the other's voice. They allow the space to have their assumptions challenged without defending or attacking, with the intention to learn and grow. They take the time to recognize and understand their own unconscious bias, their own shadow, and in this way ensure that they do not project it onto another. We've shared ideas and resources below to help you become an effective ally for women and be a part of the solution.

Boys / men are often taught to suppress emotions (particularly those that indicate distress) and be strong all the time. One consequence of this messaging is that men come to view the feminine within themselves as weak and something to be avoided or controlled. The pain this can cause themselves and others is profound. We encourage men to explore ways to nurture their emotional well-being, and invite you to check out The Mankind Project.
