From Alison Davis, Woman Within International Outreach Director:
Traditionally St. Valentine’s day on the 14th of February is the day each year on which we celebrate romantic love. I always like to think of the month of February as the month we celebrate Love.
Ever since I staffed the Wholeness Workshop and learnt about the importance of a clear connection with my Lover Archetype in order to feel love, I’ve made sure I take time out of my busy life on a regular basis to connect with my Lover Archetype. I’m especially thinking about her now, this month of February.
I’d love to share with you a little about how I do this and perhaps encourage you to do the same, and even to explore and learn more about the Lover Archetype.
In Char Tosi’s beautiful book “Discover Your Woman Within”, she reminds us that:
“Our inner lover is the most intimate, vulnerable part of who we are. She carries messages of love and connects with others by opening her heart. Her lover connections are more than sexual connections, they encompass the ability to connect and love ourselves first, so we can connect and love others in an expansive way”.
As I connect with my Lover Archetype, I focus on opening my heart. I find that as my heart begins to open, I connect with my passion and I’m more able to express my feelings. So how do I access my inner lover?
Each day I take time to slow down and focus on my breath, breathing in through my heart and out through my heart. As I continue to breathe, I visualize my Inner Lover and I ask her what she needs.
What does she want for me? What does she want me to do? Does she want me to love my body today? To take care of it? To dress it in beautiful colors, to wear jewels to make it sparkle? Does she want me to cook, to bring flowers, to have a massage with aromatherapy oils? Which of the activities that nurture me does she encourage me to do for me?
How does she suggest I play and have fun today?
How shall I indulge and pleasure my senses?
Shall I play beautiful music? Shall I take myself to a beautiful place to nurture my gift of sight? Shall I wear my favorite perfume? Shall I cook something delicious tonight? Can I already taste the sublime flavors of this dish? Shall I choose to wear something made of fabric that feels sensual to me? How will I feel as it touches my skin?
I’ve learnt from my work with Woman Within that awakening the senses is a deep spiritual practice and that taking time to connect to my Lover Archetype and listen to what she says helps me to bring myself pleasure. As I experience pleasure I connect more fully to myself, my heart opens and I feel more inspired and alive. I feel more love for myself and others and I’m able to express my love with acts of kindness, gifts and words.
After connecting with my inner Lover, I take time to journal, to capture the messages she has for me. Then I choose what to incorporate into my day and how I can do this.
So each day this month, I will be asking my Spirit and my Inner Lover, what shall I do for myself today? And I’ll be listening to what they say and following through.
I hope you’ll be inspired to do the same. Happy Valentine’s Day!
